I believe that the more collaboration and understanding there is between patients, healthcare providers, payers, policy makers, and pharmaceutical and device companies, the better life for people with diabetes will be. Patients want improved diabetes devices and treatments, better educational resources, and a healthcare team (and system) that supports them both physically and emotionally. Healthcare providers want more effective ways to communicate and share their knowledge. Companies want to serve their markets’ needs, and payers want to keep members healthy as inexpensively as possible (and both need patient-oriented product development and smart marketing campaigns in order to do so). These don’t need to be incompatible goals — but they can’t be achieved without the patient’s voice. So let’s work together.
